Though the
desire in man for perfection springs from religion and the religion is as
Mathew Arnold calls it, "the voice of the deepest human experience".
Culture is
growing and becoming a general expansion towards perfection so the
motive and sanction of religion also obligation to man to promote the kingdom of God, yet the religion is not sufficient
for a man to achieve the perfection. Because when we peep into the religious
organizations of England,
we find that they are based on the impulse of man towards moral development and
self-conquest and in this respect their ideal of perfection remains narrow and
inadequate which is not appropriate for the harmonious perfection. Because the
idea of perfection is an inward condition of the mind and spirit which is
enriched by the culture (study of perfection) and culture eschews all kind of
narrowness and hatred.
Culture, as
Mathew Arnold says, believes in making reason and will of God prevail, believes
in perfection, its purpose is to pursue the beauty (sweetness) and religion
(light) together, but religion works only for light, it does not avail the
sweetness of life. So, culture goes beyond religion in order to pursue the
perfection and mere religion fails to lead us to the harmonious perfection.
Religion unites people because religion recognizes that we are all the same, and we all need God. It doesn't matter what your status in life is, religion, at it's core, aims to equalize everyone. Thanks a lot.
