Drama is a mode
of emotions and out let of human feelings. It is the imitation of an action and
it excites the feelings of pity and fear and gives the delight and instruction
to mankind.
The history of
drama is the history of interaction among the author’s imagination, the actor’s
skill and the spectators’ expectation. Drama was developed in 6c. BC and it
originates from church worship.
In the
beginning, drama was performed only on special occasions and religious days, and
its basic purpose was to worship some super power. There was nothing else, but
the praise of Gods and their heroic deeds.
Drama is the
branch of literature and as a piece or unit of poetry is called a poem,
similarly when we choose a single unit drama, it is called play. The development
of drama is in logic order, in cycles and it originates from four types of
plays.
- Mystery plays
- Miracle Plays
- Morality Plays
- Interludes
First was
introduced the liturgical plays, so called from their being an extension of the
liturgy or church service.
