Most Common Political Terms and Definitions


Politics is the very important for the everyone. Here are the some common terms generally used in political discussions. 

Capitalism

The economic system is a system in which country’s trade and industries are controlled by private owners for profit rather than by the state. It offers people the chance to rise in the world and make money if they are prepared to work hard, it encourages the competition. In this system there is freedom of thought, speech assembly and movement. It has a parliamentary form of government.
Communism

The political system in which government owns everything such as factories, transport, shops, banks, farms, etc. So everyone works for the state. The founder of communism was Karl Marx. In this system there is no freedom of speech, thought or movement.

Democracy

This is the form of government in which power lies in the hands of all citizens or it is the government by the people or for the people or of the people. Not government bye the people, government far the people, or off the people.

Dictatorship

It is the form of government which is headed by a ruler with absolute authority.

Empire

A group of territories or nations ruled by a single ruler or government is known as empire.

Fascism

Mussolini, a dictator of Italy in 1919, founded a political philosophy that advocates the glorification of the state, a single party system with strong ruler and an aggressive form of nationalism.

Imperialism

In this form a policy of extending a country’s power and influence in the world through military force especially by acquiring colonies.

Kingdom

It is a form of government in which country or state is ruled by a king or queen inheriting the position by right of birth.

Nationalism

Being a strong supporter of the rights and interests of one’s country is known as nationalism.

Nazism

Nazism is the ideology which believes in German racial superiority. The German socialist party was founded by Adolf Hitler. The member of this party is generally known as Nazi.  

Socialism

The belief that the means of production, capital, raw materials, land and factories should be owned and controlled by the society either directly or through the government. In this way wealth could be distributed equally among all the citizens.

Theocracy

It is a form of government in which the same person is both religious leader and the political leader is known as theocracy.
